Reinecker Creek in Harold Park beside the Shuswap Lake

Painting at Reinecker creek
I always look forward to a day of plein aire painting. Today our chosen location was Reinecker creek in Harold Park beside Shuswap lake. The creek waters were full and tumbling energetically olong. The decision to paint here was inspired by our longing to capture the essence of water in motion.

The weather was crisp, the kind of cold that makes you appreciate the warmth of the sun when it breaks through the clouds. Despite the chill, the sky remained blue, casting vibrant reflections across the creek’s surface. The water danced with shades of green and blue, creating a palette dominated by cool colors. It was a challenge to replicate the fluidity of the water's movement onto our canvases, but one we welcomed with eager brushes and enthusiastic spirits.
Maureen, my fellow painter and a familiar companion on these outings, brought with her an invaluable trait: an adventurous spirit. With her hiking experience, she always seems to know of interesting spots to set up our easels. Her small dog, Annie, adds to the joyful atmosphere as she diligently watches for squirrels, her patient presence a comfort to us both.

Transporting my painting gear remained an ongoing challenge, the trolley I have is ill-equipped for the wet grass and gravel paths that led to our spot. As rough as this made the journey, it also provided an opportunity to reassess and seek out a trolley with larger wheels for future excursions. The effort was all part of the adventure, a small price to pay for the day that unfolded.

When painting for hours, sustenance becomes essential. Coffee and snacks are as necessary to our sessions as paint and brushes. They keep our energy levels up and our focus sharp, and provide a break to step back and view the progress on our canvases with fresh eyes.
Overall, the day beside the creek was a testament to the rewards of facing challenges and immersing oneself in the beauty of nature. It was about capturing not just the scene before us, but the essence of a fleeting moment shared with paint, alongside good friends.
It was a fun day! Thank you Maureen and Annie for joining me.
