If you've ever found yourself caught between the thunderous energy of a waterfall and the quiet mystery of a forest, you might just appreciate where my Margaret Falls in Motion studies came from.  These small studies are a colourful, lively tribute to one unforgettable spring day wandering up to Margaret Falls in Sunnybrae, BC.

The two studies center on the vibrant cascade of white and light gray that slice through the compositions like rushing water in action.

Around this pounding fall of water, layers of green, blue, and orange swirl and overlap, conjuring the textured depths of a forest alive with movement and light. The colours shift—from the brightest dashes of sunlight catching leaves to the shadowy hints deeper in the woods—inviting you to feel both the energy of the falls and the quiet pulse of the surrounding nature.

What makes the  Margaret Falls in Motion studies special for me is it was as a plein air painting day with my friend Maureen. Standing outside, the sounds of the creek rushing over rocks, the dappled light filtering through the trees, and the vibrant hues of the natural world all fed directly into the brushstrokes. It was less about creating a perfect replica and more about capturing the sensation — the noisy creek, the flurry of color, and those patches of golden light that make a forest feel magical.

These pieces are a celebration of that dynamic moment when water and forest collide, a snapshot of movement, texture, and color caught mid-flow. I hope it offers you a little slice of the wild, joyful energy and the serene complexity I experienced that day at Margaret Falls.
