This painting was done plein aire in front of the old Anglo British Columbia Packing Company building at the Brittania Shipyards in the village of Steveston, BC. The old building stands on stilts above the marshland slough of the Fraser River. It is bordered by the grasses and sedges that grow along the river. Many of the buildings date back to 1885 and tell the stories of multi-ethnic residents and workers at the Britannia Cannery and Britannia Shipyards: Chinese, European, First Nations and Japanese.
