What Motivates you to Paint?

I’m not really sure, but I’ve always enjoyed doing something creative and always knew I would paint one day. From a young age, I tried everything – weaving, jewellry-making, sewing, macramé, origami, pottery – you name it. My motto has always been, “if someone else can do it, so can I” and I’m stubborn enough to keep trying.

Sources of Support

I’m a bit of a loner when it comes to painting, although I enjoy the good-natured ribbing and fun of the South Delta Plein Air Painters. I paint with them when I can, and it’s not too wet or cold. I’ve taken a few workshops to learn techniques, but I prefer to follow my own path when it comes to art. My husband built me a great little studio behind our house, helps with naming paintings and adding wires, and often makes me snacks and tea when I’m out there for a long time.

Artful or Non-Artful Routines

I always work better when I have a deadline, so I like to have a few shows or events to “paint for”. Other than that, I work around my other commitments, such as volunteer work and golf days.

to Explain my Art

I’m really drawn to reflections, long shadows, and water scenes and have always been attracted to architecture. Some people say I paint things that others might overlook, preferring the “up close” to the “long view”. I can’t really explain it!
