Rod thought it would be easy to learn to paint in watercolours after retirement from Purchasing and Selling Steel. He learned all the techniques but that’s just not enough. Practice is what is really needed.
He joined the South Delta Artists Guild in 2009 and got involved in the volunteer business of the guild and got to know many fine artists and was able to parlay those contacts into more knowledge while watching art demonstrations and taking art workshops. Google and YouTube are good teachers too but still, Practice is what is really needed.
During COVID-19, the guild was shut down, we had to stay home, wear a mask and remain 6 feet away from anyone outside. Rod talked about and then started a plein air painters group in Jan 2021. The SDPAP or the South Delta Plein Air Painters continues today with 136 artists on the list and a different location every week year-round on Wednesdays in South Delta.
Rod is a local artist living in Ladner. He paints mostly landscapes and recognizable scenes in and around Ladner and Tsawwassen and mostly Plein Air. You may see him or his group painting in South Delta. Stop by, and say hello.
